Because

Not Chicago

...because when I say I'm going to Chicago, I'm really lying. I'm really saying that I'm going to Wisconsin; to Kenosha, Wisconsin, to a retreat center that has a lake right outside my window and so many birds chirping, and horses in the pasture, and geese. There are even geese. And chapels in the forest. And when I listen to the birds, and look out the window I am so thankful that it's not Chicago, even though Chicago has its moments--its very nice moments. But Kenosha, I love you, and I have already done three handstands in the loft when no one was looking. I'm soaking it up folks! This retreat comes just once a year--a needed break--a needed renovating of the heart and mind and soul, and good work stuff to accomplish. And in a few days I'll be in the real Chicago, and that will be good, too. Just a different kind of good.

Cheers, friends, there's a lake to stare at!

My mother is from Wisconsin, and I have family in Kenosha. When I was a child, I spent time in Waupaca at Spencer Lake where I went to camp and my grandparents had a cottage. Fond memories. :)

This place seems like a child's paradise, Adriane. Thanks for sharing...

Oh my goodness, I recognize that place - we spend many a good time there with our Family Synaxis group, from the Chicago Metropolis and the kids go for Fanari summer camp. I am SO excited to know you are here in Chicagoland - wish we could have a chance to meet - as such a fan of your writing and your life!! Curious- what is the retreat you are attending??

Christine, I'm here at the St. Iakovos Retreat Center with the Ancient Faith Ministries team. We are planning for upcoming years, and enjoying just being together, since all our work is done from our homes, which span the entire U.S. What a gift to see each other face to face. And... I'll be hanging out in Palatine this coming Sunday to attend liturgy, and do a book signing of When God Made You, and get to meet lots of little people. :)
